Welcome to recital season 2025!

Please read carefully, as these are all very important recital week details!
-Recital Week begins June 9. The last week of regular classes is the week of the 2nd.
Monday June 9th we will run Act 1 of the show at the studio from 5-7. A lineup of show order will be posted on BAND so that you know which act(s) your dancers’ dances are in! If they get done early, they can leave!
Tuesday June 10th we will run Act 2 of the show at the studio from 5-7pm. ( see above)
-Mandatory Tech rehearsal will be held at Marvel theater in the Rockefeller building on the Fredonia campus, Wednesday June 11th. Everyone should report to the theater at 5PM. Please don’t be late! We will make sure everyone knows where they are going, run our dances on stage for the first time and the technicians will be playing with our lights and sound to make sure they have everything perfect! Tech rehearsal DOES NOT REQUIRE COSTUMES. Please send your dancer to tech rehearsal in normal dance clothes, black leotard and tights, plus all required dance shoes, of course. We will do the finale first, run the show and when your dancer is done with all their dances, the may leave.
Mandatory dress rehearsal is Thursday June 12th. This begins at 6PM. This dress rehearsal will the only time we can run our full show, in order, with full costumes. Please make sure your dancer has every piece of their costumes, plus shoes. It is very important that we are not missing anything for this rehearsal as this is the time that we need to work out potential issues with costumes, shoes, quick changes etc. This dress rehearsal is NOT open to the public. Please don’t invite anyone to come watch it unless you speak with Miss Jessie about extenuating circumstances.
Dancers will be assigned a dressing room in the theater. Names will be written on the doors. They are to report there to change and store their belongings. Dancers are expected to stay in their own dressing room for the duration of the shows, unless they are performing or have quick changes in an upstairs room. No one is allowed to wander around or hang out side stage or in the audience unless otherwise specified. There will be dressing room helpers; a former dance mom and former dancer will be downstairs to help and watch over everyone. Parents are NOT expected to go down to their dancers’ dressing rooms to help change their costumes. They ARE expected to help their dancer find their dressing room, get all costumes set up in order, and pick them up at the end of the night.
Our first show is Friday June 13th. Call time for the dancers is 6:30PM. They should be in their assigned dressing rooms, hair done, makeup on, full costumes and shoes by 6:30! Please do not arrive at 6:30 and then start getting ready. The call time for the Saturday show is the same.
Hair needs to be in a bun. Either a high or low bun is acceptable. This just makes an overall cleaner look for all the dancers. I will send links to youtube tutorials for those of you who are not very hair-savvy. If you have issues getting your child’s hair into this type of bun, the teachers, myself as well as many of the older dancers and other parents are willing to help. Please don’t hesitate to ask someone for help! HAIR PRODUCTS & BOBBY PINS ARE YOUR FRIEND!
Please DO put a light touch of makeup on your dancer for dress rehearsal and the two shows. It does not have to be a lot, but stage lights wash out anyone’s face, so a light touch of cosmetic to define the eyes, cheeks and lips are necessary. Red lipstick WILL NOT BE allowed! Please plan ahead and buy shades of pink or dark nude/ brown lipstick or lip liner. Again, if you need help with makeup for your dancer there are many people more than happy to help.
-Lastly, as always, please be sure to bring a change of clothes for your dancer on the last night of the show, Saturday the 14th. We will be collecting costumes back from the dancers, so they will need something else to wear home that night!
Clean, unripped tights (suntan color) will be needed for the entire show week. Please don’t send your dancer in ripped or dirty tights, this includes Tech and Dress rehearsals. We want to show everyone that the dancers of the McKenna Academy are professional and prepared to impress.
Recital DVD’s will be for sale starting on Wednesday the 11th at Tech rehearsal. Barry, our videographer will have order forms with all the info on it!
Lisa Nasca is also photographing our recital as usual! She gets shots of your dancers getting ready with their friends, and action shots of your dance on stage! These are LOVELY and candid. If you are interested in having her photograph your dancer(s) please contact her on her Facebook page Photographic Images Unlimited Lisa L Nasca or we will have order forms for this at Picture Day and posted on BAND.
Tickets for the show are $16 for adults, students are $12 and under 5 are free. These can only be purchased through the Fredonia State Box Office by calling, arriving in person or going online to their website. They will be on sale as of June 1. They can not be purchased through the dance studio but they may also be purchased at the door on the day of each recital.
Welcome to Recital Season, folks! <3
